HI Grace, Bristol is better than London; lots of green spaces in the west of the city at the top of the Avon Gorge( near to the famous Clifton suspension bridge) so lots of space for the dogs to exercise. The dance yesterday was near to that area, but two friends locally had my three dogs and took them in the woods with their two greyhounds. Polly is happy staying with me, but obviously missing my mother. At least she is getting plenty of walks!! My mother is progressing slowly but is 87 years so healing is much slower. She is begining to moan about being in hospital and wants to come home, so that is a good sign. When she is discharged, I will have her to live here until she is able to go back to her house. The hospital has contacted social services to see if she can get some help which will relieve the worry when I am away. I do agree that when I see dogs needing homes, I feel like taking them all home. It is so sad to think of all the dogs in kennels. I know that Gemma in particular was so sad, but now she is always happy and really enjoys life. It is so satisfying to see them content. Best wishes to all, Martin

Hi Grace, The dance was lovely in London and have since been to two more locally, one near Bridgwater on Tuesday and last night I went to Bristol for their last dance of the season. It is good exercise and fun as well! My mother had a fall about six weeks ago and hit her head which caused a brain bleed, so she was taken to Frenchay hospital in Bristol which specialises in head injuries. They drained the fluid and after two weeks, she was transfered back to Weston hospital, so it is easier for me to visit. She is still convalescing so I don't know when she will be allowed home. When she is, I expect she will have to come here for a while umtil she is able to return to her own house. Her dog is a 10 year old collie called Polly. She is a cross between a Welsh collie and a sheltie and was a rescue from kennels near to Taunton. She was ill treated and was quite aggressive, but has mellowed over the years with security and kindness, however, she is still capable of growling when she gets upset. She objects being brushed, while my two Shepherds love it! It has been very wet her overnight, so it wasn't pleasant walking in the woods this morning.
Love Martin, Gemma and Isla.

Hi Grace, It was nice to have a break in London. I visited two friends and stayed overnight and went to a Scottish dance on the Saturday evening and met up with more friends. I agree that London is awful to stay too long, but it does make one appreciate the peace here. My mother has been in hospital for almost a month and it was nice to do something different. The dogs were well behaved while at my friend opposite. In fact, in the morning, Isla climbed onto Judiths bed and rested her head on the pillow!!!
I enjoy brushing my two girls as they so love the feeling that they moan with ectasy and are totally relaxed. My mother dog on the other hand, growls the whole time so it is anything but a pleasure to brush her, but she is moulting so must be brushed.
I believe Newfoundlands love water and just love getting wet. I do love big dogs. The last dog my mother had was a Collie/ Bernese mountain dog crossbreed and she was lovely; such a sweet nature! Love Martin, Gemma and Isla

Hi Grace Jet and Lucy. Just return from London early afternoon after a night away. Fortunately, my girls plus my mothers dog were well behaved at my good neighbour. Now she has had to go out for the rest of the day, so I have Lindy until she gets back, so it works really well.
I would absolutely dread having to bath my two girls. As they have long hair, and the double coat, I don't know how I would get the shampoo to penetrate. Fortunately, I have time to brush them every evening, and I find that they have no bad smells and their coats are shiny and glossy. On the other hand, they do like water and often spash around if I walk along the river side!
Must close now as I haven't had a decent meal since leaving my friends after breakfast.
Love from Martin, Gemma and Isla
